Physician and Interior Designer Provide Tips
On Living
with Home Dialysis in
Arranging
Your Life When Dialysis Comes Home:
The
Underwear Factor
Seattle, WA — Seattle physician Linda Gromko, M.D., and interior
designer, Jane McClure, announced the publication of their nonfiction lifestyle
guide, Arranging Your Life When Dialysis
Comes Home: The Underwear Factor (ISBN 978-0-615-32528-6). A guide for
patients who choose to do their hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis at home, Arranging Your Life When Dialysis Comes Home
provides valuable information on how to design a home dialysis space that is
comfortable, safe, and easy to use. Arranging
Your Life When Dialysis Comes Home describes how to manage the storage of
necessary medical supplies, save money on furniture and décor items, and employ
techniques used by professional designers to create a home environment that is
both functional and livable.
"This book is unique in that it looks at the living
space of the kidney patient on home dialysis," said McClure. "We help people
reclaim their homes after they've been taken over by so many medical supplies
that their houses look like clinics." McClure referred to the process
of home dialysis, which enables patients with kidney failure to receive
life-sustaining kidney machine treatments in the privacy and comfort of their
own homes, rather than public clinics.
"Our project began when we were trying to sell our
home," said co-author, Dr. Gromko, whose husband receives five home dialysis
treatments each week. "Jane staged our home for real estate sale,
disguising the kidney machine and supplies. We realized that many families
dealing with medical care in the home could benefit from a simple design
make-over that addressed issues of storage, organization, and esthetics."Gromko and McClure are the founders of
the Seattle non-profit, Arrange2Live, whose mission is to improve the quality
of life for home dialysis patients and others dealing with health care in the
home.
Dr. Gromko grew up in Seattle, and graduated from the
University of Washington School of Medicine.Prior to medical school, she earned a Master's in Nursing
degree from the University of Washington Family Nurse Practitioner Program. Dr.

Island with her husband and daughter; her son Tim Franklin is a television
newscaster in Montana. Information about her nonfiction memoir, Complications: A Doctor's Love Story,
